A Short History of the NDP
If you are new to the NDP, or simply don't get a lot of time to read, you may have wondered where the NDP came from in the first place. What were people doing back then in Canada, and how did that get turned into the NDP? This short and very clearly written history tries to give you a quick look through the window of the past to see how it has shaped our party today. Why does the labour movement seem to be so important in the NDP? What part did the NDP play in the creation of our national healthcare system? Who was Tommy Douglas anyway? And why does his name keep getting mentioned all the time? This short little article has been adapted from the Federal NDP website, and converted to an Adobe Acrobat file.
You can download the file easily and very quickly from our Download Documents section to your computer for reading later on when you have a bit more time.
